CSR team joined hands to sponsor the Beach Caretaker Programme launched by MEPA

Last week, Mercantile Investments signed an agreement with Marine and Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) to sponsor some beach areas around the island through the Beach Caretaker Programme launched by MEPA.

Beach caretaker programme commenced in 2018 by MEPA with the main objective to maintain clean beaches around Sri Lanka in a regular manner. The programme will support the Clean Seas Campaign through organized activities by communities towards prevention of marine pollution by establishing beach parks for the sustainable utilization of beaches. This program is initiated to keep our coastal belt clean while supporting the Samurdhi beneficiaries in the area by getting them involves in the cleaning process and paying the them a monthly incentive to keep the respective beach area clean.

The agreement was signed at Suhurupaya Battaramulla on 27th November 2020 in the presence of Honorable  State minister of Urban Development, coast conservation, waste disposal and public sanitsation, Dr Nalaka Godahewa, Secretary to the ministry , Mr Sirinimal Perera, Chairperson, MEPA Ms. Dharshani Lahandapura and  GM MEPA, Dr Terney Pradeep Kumara. Mr Dhanushka Fonseka, Chief Operating Officer / Director non board represented Mercantile Investments in this signing ceremony.

This is yet another act of Community and Social responsibility by Mercantile Investments amongst numerous initiatives and activities that have been taken by them towards the sustainability. The importance of protecting the coastal areas of the Island from Marine pollution has become a vital responsibility in present context.
