Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions have become a central focus in the global effort to combat climate change. Accurate GHG accounting and verification are essential to understanding our environmental impact and taking meaningful steps to reduce emissions. Obtaining independent third-party verification ensures transparency, credibility, and alignment with global and national commitments such as the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s (CBSL) Sustainable Finance Roadmap, and Sri Lanka’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the UNFCCC framework.
At Mercantile Investments (MI Finance), we are deeply committed to building a sustainable future where financial growth goes hand in hand with environmental and social responsibility. Reflecting this commitment, we collaborated with the Sri Lanka Climate Fund (Pvt) Ltd (SLCF) — a fully government-owned company under the Ministry of Environment to verify our corporate Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Statement. SLCF, as an accredited third-party verification body, specializes in sustainability solutions, offering GHG verification services, guidance for organizations in emission management, and administration of the Sri Lanka Carbon Crediting Scheme (SLCCS) to promote credible carbon reduction initiatives.
For the financial year 2024/25, SLCF conducted our organization-level GHG statement verification in accordance with the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard Specification with guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals. Following this rigorous process, we proudly received the “Greenhouse Gas Verification Opinion” certificate from the Sri Lanka Climate Fund (Pvt) Ltd, under the Ministry of Environment.
This milestone demonstrates our ongoing dedication to transparency, accountability, and sustainable progress. We are always ready to take proactive steps to manage our carbon footprint, strengthen climate resilience, and support national sustainability goals. Moving forward, we remain fully committed to contributing to the environmental, social, and economic growth of our nation empowering communities, supporting inclusive development, and driving positive change for a greener and more sustainable future.
